| If one thing
could be said for certain about Bird Gets the Smile it is
that they refused to surrender or yield to any one particular
style or trend. It was impossible to pin them down
to anything definitive, to bottle them up or package
them nice and neat under any one rock genre. Simply
put, Bird Gets the Smile defied all labels and definitions
that were thrown their way. Alternative? More than most.
Indie rock? Sure. Punk rock? If you want. Emo? Sometimes.
Math rock? Don't forget your calculator. Whatever you
may want to call it, Bird Gets the Smile played
brash, intelligent, emotive music, combining intricately
interwoven melodies, steady grooves and spiraling,
pounding rhythms that drag your brain to that warm
and fuzzy place where all we love to be. Smart, aggressive
and poetic, it's a shame that such a talented and explosive
band has gone the way of the dinosaur. They will be
sorely missed. |
