BIOGRAPHY |
|
| Like uncovering treasure from
a previous age, Atlanta-based indie rock quartet,
THE PAPER CHAMPIONS,
uncover their roots to expose some early material.
Coming after the acclaimed End.Transmission
EP (RY006) and their first full-length, Weekend
of Compromise (RY005), the expansive 11-song
digital-only LP, entitled Sounds
from the Cutting Room Floor (RY009), covers
material written and recorded during the band's
early years between 2001 and 2003. Originally
recorded for a simple demo, the scope and life
of these songs always seemed to have a need to
live beyond their intention. A track from the
shelved collection ("Ask Emma") ended up on Deep
Elm Records' much celebrated Emo
Diaries #9, a few were recorded prior to
the band's formal beginnings when members only
included Brad and Jason Neubert, and others were
intended for compilations or as bonus tracks.
Pop-accessible in spots, sharp with exposed crags
and angular developmental sounds in others, the
album paints a picture of a band on a path of
melody - honing their sound and offering hooks
that shape their music today. |
